What this calculator is for

Many routines cost money not because they are difficult but because they happen often. Twelve minutes goes unnoticed. Twelve minutes, twenty times a week, done by three people, is a full time month per year. This calculator makes that arithmetic visible.

How the figure is calculated

  1. 1.People times occurrences per week times minutes per occurrence gives minutes per week.
  2. 2.Times 46 working weeks, divided by 60, gives hours per year.
  3. 3.Divided by eight gives working days per year.
  4. 4.Times the internal hourly rate, if given, gives the amount in euros.

The calculation uses 46 weeks rather than 52, so that holidays and public holidays are not counted. The result therefore errs on the low side rather than the high side.

A worked example

Three people handle twenty occurrences per week at twelve minutes each. That is 552 hours per year, or 69 working days. At an internal rate of 45 euros per hour it comes to 24,840 euros.

How much time does a recurring routine cost per year?

The annual time cost of a recurring routine follows from four numbers: how many people are involved, how often it happens per week, how many minutes one pass takes, and how many working weeks the year has.
